and in what has been revealed to us
and what was revealed to Abraham,
Ismail, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes
and in (Books) given to Moses, Jesus
and the Prophets from their Lord;
we make no distinction
between one another among them
and to God do we bow our will (in Islam)
(Quran 3:84.)"

Harar, an ancient city surrounded by
great walls was for centuries the main centre for Islamic learning and culture,
and a prosperous centre for the caravan trade.
Harar remained an important center of
Muslim learning and trade throughout the 17th and 18th centuries
